Lawyers: ChatGPT without breaching professional secrecy?
The question is no longer whether firms use AI : they already do. The real question is how to do it without exposing client files.

Lawyers' professional secrecy requires absolute vigilance on any communication containing client-confided information. Pasting a contract, brief or file excerpt into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini potentially exposes that information to the model provider, creating professional and ethical risk.
Bar authorities' recommendations on AI stress caution on client data. Simply banning AI tools isn't enough : usage continues in parallel (Shadow AI).
Pseudonymize before AI
Pseudonymization (GDPR art. 4(5)) replaces names, amounts, contact details and identifiers with neutral tokens before sending to AI. The model no longer receives identifying data : professional secrecy is better preserved than with plain-text submission.

- Paste the cleaned version into ChatGPT or Claude
- Restore real names in the result, locally, via encrypted mapping
